One Man Show

While in Sarasota, Florida, I wanted to see the world’s largest miniature circus, The Howard Bros. Circus Model at the Ringling Museum.

The model is a replica of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus from 1919 – 1938.

It was created over a period of more than 50-years by master model builder and philanthropist Howard Tibbals.

This guy handmade an insanely huge amount of little models of people, trains, homes, tents and everything else found near or in a circus from a century ago.

Howard is 75 years old and is still building these things.

Pretty amazing.

Red Hook Plastic Beach, Part 3: Tire Nest

.

This is an unnamed area where industrial Red Hook land meets industrial New York Harbor water and combinations of natural and man-made objects combine to create devastating, yet beautiful patterns and color combinations.

Self Portrait

Functional, dysfunctional, perhaps it’s just an exhaust coming out of a wall, but this picture makes me happier than most I’ve taken in 2012 so far.

Accidental Gehry

I know that photographing the reflections in office buildings is nothing new, but I still enjoy it quite a bit.

I love the way things get abstracted on its mirrored surface.  I couldn’t help to notice that the ordinarily right-angled building reflected on the left kind of resembles Frank Gehry‘s 8 Spruce Street‘s residential tower.

I wonder if his appreciation of all things abstract are also taken directly from the mundane architectural reality of building clusters like in these midtown Manhattan pictures.

Does anyone else stop to look at these psychedelic distortions? Well, it’s about fucking time, right?

Cool Tag

The pattern and texture created from the outdoor elements made this tag on an A/C unit something worth pondering. So I say.

Hipster Hotel

The Wythe Hotel opened in Williamsburg, Brooklyn last week and it looks to be a good time for both tourists and locals alike.  I joked with my half-asleep fiancé last night that I wanted to spend our honeymoon in their top floor loft.  From their website:

“this room has floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook Manhattan, and a private staircase leading to a private, 200-square foot terrace for an outside view of the skyline. It has one king bed, a standalone pedestal tub, lounge space, and a full service minibar. It sleeps 2 and is 725 square feet.”

Sounds like an awesome getaway for me, I mean us.
